    “Student experience” was presented as the overarching theme for every BCM 212 students research project this semester. But, it’s from this theme that each student must find a topic on a specific element of student experience to conduct research on, with the intent to resolve an issue or benefit a current situation that university students face at UOW and other institutions.     Over the previous two blog posts, attached to BCM 114, I’ve detailed both the ideating and prototyping of my digital artefact (DA), picture perfect_food. To conclude, this three series documentation I’ll be outlining the making component and methodology for my content, as well as any adaptions to the original method.     [BCM 114] Digital Artefact – Prototyping Phase

    “A prototype can be anything that a user can interact with” (Plattner, H 2010). Prototyping is the essence of the digital artefact process. By addressing low resolution questions users can rapidly refine their projects with ease and eliminate any faults present. To Recall, my artefact is an Instagram account called “Picture perfect_food”. On it, I post my various attempts to replicate recipes from cookbooks by simply looking at the picture attached to the recipe and replicating the aesthetics.     This semester I’m enrolled in Making Media (BCM 114), which asks for students to develop a digital artefact (DA) that’s accessible online to the public. For those of you who may remember, Emergent media (BCM 112) asked for the same thing.     Framing is defined as the packaging of information in a way that dictates how the content is interpreted. This is achieved by either creating new information or by manipulating an existing view and/or stereotype. From a political organizational stance, framing can be an incredibly effective tool for manifesting one’s perception or understanding of another.     In the lecture, this week we looked at media technologies, in the form of social media platforms. These days, we find it difficult to detach ourselves from our devices because of them.  The internet today is saturated with various social media platforms. However, to begin with there were only two, Facebook and Myspace. Thanks to rapid and frequent updates, Facebook were able to develop a more user-friendly experience.     Sources & Confidentiality: The ABC Cabinet File’s impact on the future of journalism (Ethics Explainer).

    For journalists, sources of information are vital to the media’s functioning (Butler & Rodrick, p. 461). Often informants provide journalists with key details on various stories. However, there are some circumstances where informants wish to maintain a level of anonymity (i.e. whistle blowers), due to the controversial or shocking nature of the information they possessed and the consequences that might arise from communicating it. This refers to the idea of confidentiality, an ethical dilemma that journalists often must deal with.
